A Mobile Design for a Communication App
Overview
Kovii makes it convenient to connect with others while respecting their time and privacy. Its mission is to improve humanity and foster more genuine connections.
The main goals of Kovii include :
strengthening friendships
increasing empathy for one another
decreasing loneliness and dissension
How Does It Work?
Many people have busy lives and schedules which makes it hard for them to connect with their peers. Kovii allows people to create social circles and schedule their availability in advance. It saves users the hassle of having to ask their peers when they are available to talk.
Who was involved?
Three designers worked on this app, including me. We were guided by the creator of Kovii on how to improve the user experience. The app is free and available to download in the app store, and many people had already been using the app prior to us starting the project.

Design Process
User Research
Since Kovii already had a user base established, I used that to my advantage. I kindly reached out to users on Facebook and interviewed them to gain perspective on how it was being received. The insights I discovered led the project in the right direction.
Key Insights
Users prefer to wait for others to contact them instead of reaching out themselves
Updating status and availability is the main feature being used
Setting up schedules feature is desired to better organize events
Market Analysis
To see how Kovii compared to other communication apps, I analyzed the current market. What I discovered was that Kovii must incorporate more features to compete.
Design Ideation
I thought of how to solve the problem with a new design. I drafted low-fidelity wireframes to flesh out the details of the concept, and I re-iterated on them to form the final product.

The features Kovii will integrate include :
Custom Status Updates
Users can customize their own status updates or choose a preset status.
Scheduling Availability
Users can schedule their availability in advance for when they will be active
Edit Open Availabilities
If any changes happen in their schedules, users can edit the event by tapping on it
Product Testing
By inviting participants to interact with a clickable prototype of Kovii, I was able to get an idea of what was working and what was not. During this testing process, I took notes on how I could improve the user experience. Tweaks were made to the UI design after testing.

Final Thoughts
The updates vastly improved the functionality of Kovii. I believe the new features will encourage people to use Kovii more frequently and have an overall better experience!
Next Steps
The next steps for Kovii would be to release the new version in the app store and continue doing more testing based on the feedback. There will likely be constant iterations made to the design in order to provide the best experience to users.
